No sides, just a 3.5 inch slab of high-density egg-crate foam under a plush sherpa top. A dog that sleeps flat on its side with the legs out gets the whole surface, and the low profile slides into a wire crate without fighting the door.
We make it in seven sizes from 30 by 20 inches to 50 by 36, and fifteen colors. If the bed goes in a crate, match it to the crate floor rather than to the dog: the dog sets the minimum, the crate sets the maximum.
